Coreopsis vs. Marigolds: Which is better for porch containers?

I am in the middle of a complete porch upgrade and I am not sure which one to choose. I desire that sunny air, that sunshine of mine, yet I must have something, that, should I fail to water it two days, will not die. I’m leaning towards Coreopsis after seeing how they styled them on the abodelook blog. They appear more costly in taste than ordinary marigolds thoughts?
