Museum-quality craftsmanship.
The Greubel Forsey (GF) Balancier QM is both a new timepiece and a statement, launching the brand’s Qualité Musée (QM) designation, reflecting its pursuit of world-class structure and craftsmanship.
GF has successfully refined its “entry-level” timepiece, featuring a 39.6mm white gold case, based on the Balancier Contemporain platform.
The Balancier QM feels very familiar. This is understandable, as it borrows many design elements from the recently discontinued Balancier Contemporain. While it lacks novelty, its exquisite craftsmanship makes up for it.

The self-proclaimed “museum-quality” standard might seem exaggerated coming from most brands, but it feels perfectly reasonable from GF’s perspective. This ambition is evident in every aspect of the Balancier QM watch. Even with the brand logo obscured, its exquisite craftsmanship is enough for future restorers to recognize it at a glance; they will immediately know that the Balancier QM is no ordinary product.
Even if they miss the double-polished escapement wheel, the meticulously polished round jewels should still attract their attention.
Technically speaking, the Balancier QM is an upgraded version of the Contemporain, offering little innovation. It remains a 3Hz movement that only displays the time, with a 72-hour power reserve, and the indicators are in roughly the same position. Nevertheless, thanks to its in-house 12.6mm free-sprung balance wheel, this movement still performs exceptionally well.
The Balancier QM is nearly identical in size to the Contemporain—both are 39.6 mm in diameter and 12.25 mm thick (including the crystal). Considering the visual depth created by the multi-layered dial, such a compact size is truly remarkable. While the refined design offers more possibilities for creative embellishments, I still miss the Contemporain’s angular balance bridge.
The debut of the QM hallmark coincides with the commercialization of GF’s in-house hairspring, previously limited to the Hand Made 1 and Hand Made 2 watches. GF plans to equip every new timepiece with its in-house hairspring, starting with the Balancier QM. <p>perfect replica watches</p>
